When you receive stellar service, it's natural to want to reward the person providing such service. However, with regards to a notary public, its good to keep in mind that notaries are public servants. Therefore, California notaries are not allowed to accept tips. This includes non-monetary perks such as movie tickets, or gift cards.

Additional compensation outside of the legal limit of the cost of a notarization could easily be misconstrued as a bribe or an attempt to elicit favors.
